Hi, my name is Desiree Rogers. I've been working in the veterinary business for 9 years. My goal has always been to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. I began taking classes my senior year in high school in the Animal Care Program at the Regional Occupation Center. I worked at a Veterinary Hospital during my rotation. I then enrolled at Bakersfield College where I was active in the Agriculture Club. I received my Associates degree in Animal Science. When I was finished I thought "where do I go from here?" At that time there were no Veterinary Technician programs located in Bakersfield. Bakersfield College started the Registered Veterinary Technician program six months later. My prayers were answered. I went to school for two and half years while working two jobs, one full-time the other part-timed…man am I glad those days are over.
Enough about school let me tell you why I wake up every morning. There are a lot of pets who need me. They don't have a voice, so with the help of their Doctor and support staff they can receive the quality care they so much deserve and need. I have always been an animal lover and owner. As a young child my mother always told me what an animal lover I was. I would love on them, help them when in need and speak to them as if they could understand me, as if they were human, which I continue to do today. If an animal is in the hospital I try to make them fill as comfortable as possible.
Domino was the name of my first dog, he was a German Shorthair Pointer and contracted parvo as a puppy. At the time my mother was a single mom of three and couldn't afford to treat her. Domino didn't make it and at the time I was so young that I couldn't understand what was happening. Working as a technician that memory holds true in my mind and allows me to do all that I can so that no child will have to feel the way I did that terrible day. This is the reason I have chosen to work with animals. I now own 2 Chocolate labs; Chevelle and Bryce, one pit bull named Diesel and a cat named Loves. Bryce and Loves are rescue animals. Bryce just had both of his hips replaced. I love him, and would do it again in a heartbeat. The reason I love being a technician lies in the smiles of the families and the pets I help.
I now work here at Affordable Pet Hospital, with a compassionate and knowledgeable staff. I would like to thank all the Doctors and technicians that I have worked with in the past for helping me become the amazing technician I am today.
